For independent type foundries · In development, not open yet
Every licence, every designer, every file.
Typetin is being built as the licensing and sales back office independent foundries never had: term licences and renewals, quotes that hold their price, a versioned EULA on every order, royalty statements across designers, per-order fingerprinting, hosted webfonts with usage and a public API, with your shop on top.
Your Stripe, 0% commission, and you leave with everything.
Made for multi-designer labels, collectives and mid-size foundries.
01 · Licensing
Licensing, done the way a foundry does it.
Desktop seats, web pageviews and apps; terms and renewals; quotes for the big deals; and the exact EULA every buyer agreed to. Typetin is being built to keep all of it on the record.
Licences that fit type
BuildingLicence groups, tiers and multipliers for desktop, web, app and more, with presets you can edit.
Term licences and renewals
BuildingLicences priced by term, with renewal orders and reminders sent before a term lapses.
Quotes that hold their price
BuildingSend a quote whose prices are frozen when you issue it, so the buyer pays what you quoted even if your prices change.
Versioned EULAs
BuildingEvery order records which version of your EULA the buyer accepted.
02 · Designers and royalties
Every designer, accounted for.
For labels and collectives. Each designer’s share is recorded on the order line when the sale happens, so royalty statements come from the record, not from a spreadsheet at the end of the quarter.
Royalty statements across designers
BuildingEach designer’s share is recorded on every order line at the time of sale, with statements per designer, period and currency, and refunds reversed.
Multiple currencies
BuildingSet explicit prices in each currency you sell in, with royalties and statements kept in the order’s currency.
03 · Delivery and compliance
Every file, traceable.
Every order’s fonts carry a signed fingerprint, and web licences can be served from hosted kits that answer only on the licensed domains. Your own record of where your fonts went.
Fingerprinted downloads
BuildingEvery order’s fonts carry a signed fingerprint that traces a file back to its licence.
Hosted webfonts, with usage
BuildingEach web licence gets a hosted webfont kit that serves only the licensed domains and counts pageviews, so you can see usage against what was bought.
Customer accounts
BuildingBuyers get an account per foundry with order history and re-downloads. Download links last 90 days and can be re-issued any time.
Trial fonts
BuildingTrial versions of your fonts, generated from your own files.
04 · Already have a site?
Keep your site. Run the back office behind it.
Most foundries already have a shop built for them, and they shouldn’t have to give it up. The plan: your site reads the catalogue, orders, licences and customers from Typetin’s public API and hears about new orders by webhook, while Typetin runs checkout, delivery and the licence records.
# Your catalogue, as your site sees it GET /v1/typefaces Authorization: Bearer ttk_… 200 { "data": [ { "name": "…", "styles": 12, "licences": ["desktop", "web", "app"] } ] }
Public API
BuildingRead your catalogue, orders, licences and customers from your own site or tools, with order webhooks, so a foundry with its own site can keep it.
One-click export
BuildingExport your catalogue, font files, customers, orders, licences and royalty records in open formats, on every plan, including after you cancel.
05 · The shop on top
Type, shown as type.
A shop in your colours and your fonts, with pages built from type blocks and specimens set live in the files you upload. Try it: change the text, the size and the axes.
Live type, not a picture: Newsreader, self-hosted under the SIL Open Font License. Typetin storefronts will build testers like this from each foundry’s own files.
Your look, not ours
BuildingColours, type and spacing are theme tokens you set, with custom CSS on top. Nothing on your storefront has to look like Typetin.
Drag-and-drop pages
BuildingBuild pages from type-specific blocks (testers, weight grids, glyph sets, licence pickers) with a live preview in your own theme and fonts.
Live specimens
BuildingTypeface pages show your fonts as live, editable type, generated from the files you upload.
Your own domain
BuildingPoint your own domain at your storefront by adding one DNS record. You keep the domain and the DNS; TLS is automatic.
06 · From the workshop
What’s built so far.
Nothing is open to foundries yet. Each entry below is built and tested in code, mostly against stand-ins for Stripe, storage and email, and is being proven before any foundry relies on it. A feature is described as working only once a foundry can use it.
Your domain, your sending address, your currencies
Custom domains with DNS checks and certificates, order email sent from the foundry’s own domain, and explicit prices in each currency a foundry sells in, with royalties kept in the order’s currency.
A private staging deployment
The storefront, admin and API now run on a private staging deployment with a real Postgres database. Only our team can open it.
Licensing in depth
Term licences with renewal reminders at 30 and 7 days, quotes frozen and hashed when they’re issued, the agreement version recorded on every order line, and royalty statements per designer, period and currency.
A public API and hosted webfonts
A versioned API with scoped keys, an OpenAPI description and order webhooks, and per-licence webfont kits that answer only on the licensed domains and count pageviews.
Pages built from type blocks
A drag-and-drop page builder whose blocks are made for type: testers with variable axes, family grids, glyph sets, specimens and pricing tables, previewed in the foundry’s own theme and fonts.
Leave with everything
One-click export: a single ZIP of the catalogue, font masters, customers, orders, licences, royalty records and fingerprints, every file listed with its checksum. It’s built to work on every plan and after cancelling.
From cart to fingerprinted download
An end-to-end test takes a cart through checkout on a stand-in for Stripe, the signed webhook, a fingerprinted ZIP, the receipt and the download, then refunds the order and checks the download is refused.
PayPal and a merchant-of-record option
Payment through the foundry’s own PayPal account, or Polar as merchant of record for foundries that would rather not file sales tax.
A font pipeline on HarfBuzz
WOFF2 webfonts, subsets, trial fonts and per-order fingerprints from one WebAssembly engine, about 1.7 MB where the old toolchain was 15 MB.
Every foundry’s records kept apart
Orders and licences are kept in Postgres with row-level security per foundry, so one foundry reading another’s records is a database error, not a bug in a page.
